Source And Standards

Collected at 35 partner centres nationwide and processed in one CAP-accredited laboratory operating to MS ISO 15189. Every report is read by a doctor registered with the Malaysian Medical Council before your e-consultation. Treating clinics set their own pre-treatment requirements, so check this list with yours before you book. Want the markers without treatment planning? See Cancer Screening for Men.

Background Science

Before any cell-based treatment, the doctor assessing you needs a documented picture of your current health. The International Society for Stem Cell Research guidelines, the reference standard for the field, emphasise informed consent and caution against the premature commercialisation of unproven stem cell-based interventions (Lovell-Badge R, et al. Stem Cell Rep. 2021;16(6):1398 to 1408. doi.org/10.1016/j.stemcr.2021.05.012). A pre-test does not make any treatment proven. It gives your doctor a baseline to assess you against. The tumour markers are included on the same basis. Most blood tumour markers earn their place in managing diagnosed cancer, such as CEA in bowel cancer and CA 125 in ovarian cancer, and the value of PSA as a population screen remains unclear (Duffy MJ. Med Princ Pract. 2013;22(1):4 to 11. doi.org/10.1159/000338393). That is why this panel reads them as a reference point alongside a full health screening, rather than as a cancer test.

Not sure this is the right test?

Tell our care team what treatment you are considering and where. They will tell you whether this fits, whether your clinic needs something different, whether a plain health screening is the better spend, or whether what you actually need first is a doctor rather than a blood test.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a stem cell pre-test for men in Malaysia?
A general health screening, a clotting profile, a full infection screen and baseline tumour markers in one fasting visit: 23 tests plus 3 calculated indices. The markers are AFP, CEA, CA 19-9 and PSA. Hepatitis A, B and C, HIV and syphilis are all covered. A doctor e-consultation is included.
How much does a stem cell pre-test for men cost in Malaysia?
RM360 per person, with the doctor e-consultation included and no additional fee at the collection centre. The women’s pre-test is priced separately at RM390 because the marker set differs.
Can this test tell me whether I have cancer?
No. Tumour markers can be raised for benign reasons and can read completely normal in the presence of disease, so a result is a baseline reading interpreted in clinical context, never a cancer test. It does not replace a colonoscopy, a scan or a biopsy. If a symptom worries you, see a doctor rather than booking a screening.
Does a normal result mean I can have stem cell treatment?
Not on its own. The results give the treating doctor a documented baseline: how your blood clots, how your kidneys and liver are working and whether any infection is present. Suitability is decided by a doctor after a full assessment, and some clinics ask for tests of their own, so share this list with them first.
Do I need this if I have booked the Stem Cell Regenerative Program?
No. Baseline screening is already included in the Stem Cell Regenerative Program, so you would be paying twice. This pre-test is for people who want their results in hand before choosing a programme, or who are planning treatment at another clinic.
Do I need to fast before a stem cell pre-test?
Yes, 8 to 12 hours. Plain water is fine throughout. The fast is for fasting blood sugar and lipid studies. Keep taking your usual medicines unless your doctor says otherwise, and tell us about blood thinners, because they affect the clotting profile. Most people book a morning slot so the fast happens overnight.
How long do stem cell pre-test results take?
5 to 7 working days from the draw for the full report. Your e-consultation is scheduled once the report is ready, so you are never left reading a number alone. If any result needs urgent attention we contact you rather than waiting for the scheduled call.
Where can I get a stem cell pre-test done?
At any of 35 collection centres across all 13 Malaysian states plus Kuala Lumpur and Labuan, including Petaling Jaya, Klang, Cheras, Johor Bahru, George Town, Ipoh, Kuantan, Seremban, Melaka, Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. The panel, the price and the fast are identical everywhere.
Adakah saya perlu berpuasa sebelum ujian pra-rawatan sel stem?
Ya, selama 8 hingga 12 jam. Anda boleh minum air kosong. Teruskan ubat biasa melainkan doktor menasihatkan sebaliknya, dan maklumkan kepada kami jika anda mengambil ubat pencair darah kerana ia menjejaskan ujian pembekuan darah. Kebanyakan orang memilih slot pagi supaya puasa berlaku semalaman.

This pre-treatment screening supports medical assessment and is not a diagnostic test. It does not confirm suitability for stem cell, exosome or any other treatment: suitability is decided by a doctor after a full assessment, and treating clinics may set their own test requirements. Tumour markers can be raised for benign reasons and normal in the presence of disease, and are interpreted only in clinical context. They do not detect, confirm or exclude cancer, and a normal result does not rule out all disease. PSA is a blood marker, not a prostate examination, and it should follow a shared decision-making conversation with a doctor. About one person in ten does not produce CA 19-9 for genetic reasons. Clotting results can be affected by blood-thinning medicines. A licensed doctor reviews every report and will advise whether further investigation is needed. If you are currently unwell, please see a doctor rather than waiting 5 to 7 working days for a result. Reference ranges and individual results vary, and marker assays are not directly comparable between laboratories. All samples are processed by a CAP-accredited laboratory operating to MS ISO 15189 in Malaysia. Please disclose all medication and supplements, existing medical conditions and recent illness before your appointment.
