A major study of 44,717 people across five South Asian countries found 68% of participants had low vitamin D levels.

The average vitamin D level ranged from 4.7 to 32 ng/mL, with a mean of 19.15 ng/mL. Pakistan had the highest deficiency rate at 73%, followed by Bangladesh (67%), India (67%), Nepal (57%), and Sri Lanka (48%).

A study in Kuala Lumpur found that 67.4% of participants had vitamin D levels below 20 ng/mL, indicating widespread deficiency. Among ethnic groups, Indians had the highest deficiency rate at 80.9%, followed by Malays (75.6%), Others (44.9%), and Chinese (25.1%). These findings highlight the need for increased awareness and preventive measures to address vitamin D deficiency in Malaysia.
